The 2009 Elite Cup will be a 32 team single
elimination competition. Like always there will be a random draw before and after each round. 24 of the 32 spots in the Cup
will be invites, with 8 open signup spots avaliable on the first come first serve basis. Also will keep a waiting list in
case any invited teams drop out.
For those that don't know (or remember) the Elite Cup is MFLS's one and only preseason
tournament, which is run by a soccer simulator I created a few years ago (nothing high tech, just produces results.)
I
create the MFLS teams in my sim adjusted to their MFLS careers, as of now I've got 55 different MFLS teams created (obviously
will create any new teams that join,) and at the end of each season I adjust their rankings to reflect the previous season,
its mostly based off your overall MFLS career results but with a heavy influence of the previous season's (2008) performance.
I've played in MFLS every year except one and I follow everything that goes on in MFLS so my team rankings are fairly accurate
(also use Preston's website to help with ranking the different teams)...
Though, other than doing well in MFLS over
the years, managers/owners really have no influence over how their teams perform in the Elite Cup (basically accepting invite/joining
then sitting back and waiting for results) it is a fun MFLS related tourneyment to pass the time until the MLS season kicks
off, also gives MFLS a pre-season champion.
Invited Teams, just confirm you want to be in the tourney, or decline
if you feel like doing so (hah, no one has ever declined)...
All previous Elite Cup Champions get lifetime invites.
The other invites goto the previous season's major MFLS competition/cup winners, historical top MFLS teams, teams that have
participated in the Elite Cup before, and other managers that make this game enjoyable for myself as well as everyone else
(those who run traditional in season cups, divisions, active on the forums, etc)...
Deadline to accept the invite
is Monday, March 2rd. Any invited teams that haven't accepted or have not signed up for MFLS by that time will be replaced
on a first come first serve basis by the first team(s) on the waiting list.
